METHODS
IS THE INJECTION CASTING TECHNIQUE THE SAME THING AS THE PIPE LINER TECHNIQUE?
Although the materials the two techniques employ are similar, and both methods involve the use of existing old pipes to create new pipes, the injection casting and pipe liner techniques are not the same thing.
In injection casting, a durable polyester composite is cast onto the inside surface of pipes. When this polyester plastic hardens, it forms self-supporting pipes inside the old sewer pipes. In the pipe liner process, on the other hand, a pipe liner impregnated with an epoxy resin is inserted into existing pipes by use of compressed air. When the material has hardened, it forms new pipes into already existing ones.
Both of these pipe relining techniques produce new pipes, the service lives of which are comparable to that of new, traditionally built sewer pipes.
WHAT KINDS OF SITES BENEFIT FROM NEWLINER PIPE RELINING?
The injection casting technique is best suited to sewer pipes located inside buildings. The pipe liner technique is particularly suited to under-ground pipes or those located in cellars, as well as to the relining of vertical pipes such as storm sewers. Pipe liner can also be used in pipes inside buildings.
IN WHAT KINDS OF BUILDINGS CAN THE INJECTION CASTING AND PIPE LINER TECHNIQUES BE USED?
In all kinds of buildings.
WHAT DOES THE RELINING OF UNDERGROUND SEWAGE PIPES MEAN TO ME AS A RESIDENT OF A BLOCK OF FLATS?
Quick, reliable and disturbance-free pipe renovation. The residence need not be vacated, nor does the relining require outside demolition work. Consequently, outside surroundings remain beautiful as well. The NewLiner relining work is mainly carried out on the bottom floor of the building. As such, renovation work is hardly noticeable outside of the building.
Consequently, the inconvenience posed to individual flats is, at most 1-2 days and the use of the sewers is prohibited for only a moment. The short duration of the sewer use prohibition is a consequence of our temporary sewer system service.
IS NEWLINER PIPE RELINING CARRIED OUT ON CAST IRON SEWERS LOCATED UNDERGROUND?
Yes, it can be. Our relining method is particularly suited to the refurbishment of underground sewer pipes.
WHERE IS THE USA OF RELINING NOT RECOMMENDED?
Pipe relining is particularly well-suited for underground and cellar pipes, as well as for vertical pipes such as surface drainage pipes.
Relining is not recommended, however, if the old pipe system has bad recessions, tilts or completely collapsed pipes. We evaluate the suitability of our pipe relining services for the refurbishment needs in question when the offer is made.
FOR WHAT SIZE PIPES IS NEWLINER RELINING SUITABLE?
The injection casting technique is recommended for pipes with an inside diameter of 50-200mm and the pipe liner technique is suitable for those 75-1200mm.
MUST THE EXISTING OLD PIPE INTACT?
We assess the suitability of our pipe relining for the refurbishment needs in question when the offer is made. The existing pipe must be in such condition that is can serve as a mould for the new pipe cast, or that it is possible to use it to guide the pipe liner in the correct direction during the fitting and hardening stage. The suitability is predominantly determined by the location of possible cracks or holes in the old pipe.
HOW LONG CAN THE PIPE RELINING BE EXPECTED TO TAKE?
When the injection casting technique is used, the relining of the pipes for one flat takes, on average, only one working day. The duration of the pipe renovation for a block of flats depends on the number of flats as well as on the condition of the existing pipes.
The relining of groundwater pipes of a typical medium-sized block of flats takes about 2-3 weeks. Individual residences experience only 1-2 days of interruptions in sewer use during this time. The short duration of the sewer use prohibition is a consequence of our temporary sewer system service.
CAN THE RESIDENCE BE OCCUPIED DURING PIPE RELINING?
Yes. The residents need not move out for the duration of the renovation as the techniques we use for pipe relining involve no destruction of floor or wall surfaces or any demolition of outside areas surrounding the building.
IS WATER USE ALLOWED DURING THE TEMPORARY SEWER USE INTERRUPTIONS?
Water use is not allowed during sewer use interruptions.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEWLINER RELINED PIPES AND COMPLETELY REPLACED PIPES IN EVERYDAY LIFE?
Pipes –cast iron ones in particular- which have been relined using the NewLiner injection casting and pipe liner techniques are, for example, much quieter than completely replaced new pipes. Pipes we have relined also do not have connections that are susceptible to leaks, typical of conventionally replaced pipes.
DOES THE RELINED SEWER PIPE SYSTEM WITHSTAND CONVENTIONAL CLEANING?
Yes. The new pipes we create withstand high-pressure washing and mechanical scouring the same way as new PVC pipes do. They also can handle chemical drain cleansers. Due to their slippery surface, they are not as susceptible to clogging as traditional pipes.
CAN A NEW BRANCH SEWER BE ATTACHED LATER TO A NEWLINER RELINED PIPE SYSTEM? DOES IT REQUIRE SPECIAL TOOLS? DOES THE JOB REQUIRE A PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCED IN THE INJECTION CASTING OR PIPE LINER TECHNIQUE?
Connecting a new branch to a pipe renovated by NewLiner does not pose a problem.
WHERE HAVE SIMILAR PIPE RENOVATIONS BEEN DONE?
Pipe relining has been done since the 1970s, and the materials used in our process have been in use in Scandinavia and Central Europe for nearly twenty years. Over 50 000 residences have already been renovated using the injection casting technique. In Finland alone, thousands of kilometres of pipe have been relined.
WHAT HAVE THE EXPERIENCES BEEN LIKE?
The experience gathered from customer feedback and our own documentation has been very positive. We have received praise particularly for the trustworthiness of our employees, the ease and time-effectiveness of our pipe renovation as well as for the minimal renovation expenses associated with our relining process.
